ESPINAS
La Ceiba produce espinas cónicas, de 2 a 4 cm largo, cubriendo su tronco, raíces y ramas durante sus primeros años. Estas espinas protegen contra el peso y los dientes de animales pequeños mientras luchan por capturar los rayos de sol en el suelo del bosque. Cuando el árbol crece lo suficiente para mantener inquilinos adicionales, para la producción de espinas y las originales se ven gastando gradualmente.
SPINES
The Ceiba tree produces conical spines, 2-4cm long, covering its trunk, roots, and branches during its early years. These pointy spikes provide protection against the weight and teeth of small animals while struggling to gain space and capture sunlight on the forest floor. When the tree grows large enough to support additional tenants, it eventually stops producing the spines and the original ones gradually wear away.
